Andrea

Uravitch

Andrea Uravitch has a BFA from the Cleveland Art Institute.  Although, she has lived in Arlington since 1973, she has exhibited in over two hundred and fifty exhibitions both group and solo throughout the US and Europe, Africa, and Taiwan. Her subject matter is the future of the natural environment.  She likes building large and small installations that incorporate her handmade insects, lizards, birds, and animals with branches or constructed vegetation.  The sculptures are made from mixed-media processes and materials. She hopes her work will make people look and think about the natural world.

Her extensive list of places shown include participating in a group show at the American University - Katzen Arts Center;  American Association for the Advancement of Science; The Textile Museum; Renwick Gallery, National Museum of American Art, all in DC.; Solo shows at Piedmont Arts, Martinsville; University of Richmond, Laura Robbins Museum; Arlington Arts Center all in Virginia; BlackRock Art Center; The Contemporary Museum in Baltimore; Artist and Makers; in Maryland; MAD Museum of Art and Design in NYC; Racine Art Museum in Racine WI; Taipei-International Craft Design Exhibition, Taipei, Taiwan;  thirty-five years of showing at Mobilia Arts in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

 

Besides creating and exhibiting her sculptures she taught twenty-five years at the Arlington Career Center, High School. It’s there that she also taught Enrichment silk-screen and Adult Education. Black and White photography.  Currently, she is a member of the New Image, Quilt Group and serves on the James Renwick Alliance, board.  This organization supports the promotion of American Craft.
