Joseph Cortina

For Joseph Cortina, the old séance parlor trick Pepper's Ghost c. 1862 provided a starting point and exploration into digital animation and projection. The dreamlike figure floating in space and time conjures a calm weightless rolling in 'empty' field. It is not dangerous but alluring. But when the viewer moves to either side the edge is apparent, and the figure disappears becoming hidden. A question is created and the edge of space comes into play. The mystery unfolds.
